Peter Obi Endorses ADC Coalition, Promises Leadership That Prioritizes Nigerians

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the coalition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that the alliance is committed to putting Nigerians first.

In a post shared on his X account on Thursday, Obi emphasized that the decision to adopt the ADC was made after “deep reflection” on Nigeria’s worsening state and the urgent need for a new, united direction. He described the move as a commitment to providing competent, compassionate, and capable leadership.

“Yesterday, the coalition members formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 Nigeria General Elections with Distinguished Senator David Mark as National Chairman and H.E. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary,” Obi wrote.

“Our commitment is to work together and make necessary sacrifices ahead of the 2027 elections to ensure that Nigeria gets leadership that prioritizes the future and the welfare of its people.”

Obi also stressed the need for unity among opposition forces. “No one group can change Nigeria alone,” he said. “To dismantle the systems that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges even when it’s uneasy not walls.”

The coalition, which includes prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Obi, and other opposition leaders, was formally unveiled on Wednesday at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. At the event, former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola were announced as interim National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, respectively, as the group prepares to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 polls.
