‘What a Shameful Country’, Bobrisky Slams Lawmakers Over Silence on Benue Killings

Nigerian media personality Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, has taken a swipe at federal lawmakers for their silence over the recent massacre in Benue State, where over 200 people were reportedly killed in a two-day attack by suspected herdsmen.

In a post shared on Instagram on Monday, Bobrisky expressed outrage at what he described as misplaced priorities by the National Assembly. He criticized senators and members of the House of Representatives for allegedly calling urgent meetings over his past legal troubles while ignoring the escalating violence in Benue.

He wrote:
“Senator/House representative didn’t call an urgent meeting over the killing happening in Benue. But they can call an urgent meeting when it comes to Bobrisky. Shame, shame!!!! Shame!!! What a shameful country.”

Bobrisky’s remarks reference his legal battle earlier in 2024, when he was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for abusing the naira. Although he was convicted, there has been public speculation that he did not serve his sentence in a regular correctional facility.

His comments have resonated with many Nigerians online, who are also criticizing the government’s muted response to the Benue killings. There is a growing chorus on social media calling for President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in the state, similar to the one declared in Rivers State earlier in March 2025 over political unrest.

The contrast between swift political reactions in some cases and the perceived lack of urgency over mass violence has sparked fresh debates about government accountability and the value placed on Nigerian lives.
