Mabel Oboh, a former governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in Edo State, has urged Governor Monday Okpebholo to tackle the growing security challenges in Ukhun community, Esan West Local Government Area.

This call to action comes after Fulani herdsmen invaded the community, killing one person and injuring several others.Oboh emphasized that the increasing frequency and severity of these attacks have instilled fear among the Esan populace, threatening their sources of livelihood.

Furthermore,She appealed to the state government to take decisive action to safeguard the lives and assets of the Esan people. In her statement, “The increasing frequency and severity of these attacks have instilled a pervasive sense of fear among the Esan populace.”

“Consequently, the resulting food shortages and economic difficulties are exacerbating the community’s precarious situation.

“The most recent attack in Ukhun, which resulted in one death and multiple injuries, represents yet another instance of violence against our farmers.

“I earnestly appeal to the state government to take decisive action to safeguard the lives and assets of the Esan people”, Oboh said.

The recent incidents have raised significant concerns and prompted widespread outrage. Oboh stressed that farmers in the community face threats of murder, kidnapping, and sexual violence, hindering their ability to cultivate their land. This has resulted in food shortages and economic difficulties, exacerbating the community’s precarious situation.

To address this issue, Oboh called for a ban on open grazing, urging the Edo state government to adopt ranching practices, which have historically proven effective. She emphasized the need for the government to take immediate action to protect the lives and properties of the inhabitants.

In conclusion,  Governor Okpebholo has faced criticism in the past for his campaign pledge, with a viral video showing him mistakenly promising to “provide insecurity” to the state if elected governor. it remains to be seen how he will respond to Oboh’s call to action and address the growing security concerns in Edo State.
