SDP Confident of 2027 Victory Over APC

Adebayo Adewole, the ex-presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), is confident that his party will defeat President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. Adewole stated, “Tinubu will be removed from power; that is sure. And there will be an SDP president.”

Adewole’s optimism is fueled by the recent defection of Nasir El-Rufai, a former APC member, to the SDP. El-Rufai cited the APC’s abandonment of its founding principles as the reason for his defection. Adewole acknowledged El-Rufai’s political intelligence and noted that the SDP has learned from other major political parties in the country.

The SDP leader emphasized that his party would not be divided, unlike the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He stated, “We knew when they started sharing the spoils of office that they would all scatter; we knew that the programmes all of them had would not benefit Nigerians.”

Adewole also addressed concerns that he might be sidelined by the defectors joining his party. He said, “Any coward who is feeling threatened by people coming to his party cannot be president. We have learned from the mistakes of the PDP and APC and will not allow our party to become divided.”

The SDP’s chances of winning in 2027 may be boosted by El-Rufai’s defection, as he seeks alliances with other opposition figures to dislodge the APC. However, it’s still early to predict the outcome of the 2027 elections.

Overall, Adewole’s confidence in the SDP’s ability to defeat the APC in 2027 is rooted in his party’s commitment to learning from the mistakes of other parties and staying focused on its goals. As the political landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how the SDP’s strategy plays out.

It’s high time more responsible parties come into the playing field. But care should taken so as not to accept wolfs in sheep clothing into the flock
