Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar is scheduled to visit Sokoto State on Wednesday, November 4, for the commencement of his presidential campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku, who is seeking the presidency under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is expected to touch down at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport by 9:00 a.m.
Ahead of his arrival, the opposition party has appealed to its supporters, chieftains and other residents to gather at the airport to receive the former vice president.
Senator Ibrahim Abdullahi Lamido, the ADC Presidential Campaign Coordinator in Sokoto State, made the announcement in an official statement inviting party faithful and members of the public to participate in the reception.
He disclosed that the formal commencement of the party’s presidential campaign in the state would hold at its secretariat situated at No. 1 Ilorin Road, Sokoto.
Lamido called on party officials across the local government areas and wards to mobilise their members and ensure adequate participation in the programme.
He also directed mobilisation officers, political support organisations, women’s groups and youth associations to utilise their existing networks in preparing for the event.
According to the campaign coordinator, the party anticipates an impressive gathering as it begins its political activities in the state ahead of the forthcoming presidential contest.
The planned visit follows the ADC’s decision to reschedule its Sokoto campaign inauguration, which was originally fixed for Saturday, October 31, but subsequently moved to Wednesday, November 4.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the postponement was communicated by the party’s Presidential Campaign Council in Sokoto through a statement issued by its Director-General, Bello Aliyu Goronyo.
The council attributed the adjustment to outstanding organisational arrangements and the need to improve coordination ahead of the programme.
It explained that the revised date was necessary to put the required arrangements in place and guarantee a successful event.
The campaign council also regretted any difficulties the change might have caused party members, political stakeholders and supporters, urging them to remain committed to the party despite the adjustment.
The rescheduling occurred against the backdrop of reports concerning accommodation challenges in Sokoto ahead of the initial October 31 gathering.
Some reports alleged that several hotel operators were reluctant to provide rooms for visitors despite claims that reservations had already been secured in anticipation of the political event.
In a separate development, the ADC’s national Presidential Campaign Council had earlier rejected a campaign schedule that surfaced on social media without authorisation.
Kola Ologbondiyan, the council’s Director of Media and Publicity, addressed the issue in a statement, clarifying that the circulating document, which outlined suggested dates and locations for political activities nationwide, was not produced or approved by the campaign leadership.
The council cautioned party members and other stakeholders against relying on the unauthorised publication, advising them to obtain information about campaign arrangements exclusively through recognised communication channels.
Ologbondiyan emphasised that only announcements officially released by the national campaign leadership should be regarded as authentic.
Atiku’s scheduled appearance in Sokoto represents part of the ADC’s broader strategy to strengthen its political structures, attract supporters and expand its influence across the country ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The opposition party is positioning itself to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming electoral contest
