Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has tasked women backing President Bola Tinubu with taking the administration’s message into towns and communities across the state as the 2027 presidential election approaches.
He spoke on Tuesday in Akure at the formal launch of the Ondo chapter of Tinubu Torch Bearers, a women-focused group established to rally support for the President.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, said women could play a significant part in reaching voters because of their strong presence and influence within communities.
He said, “In all of this, the Tinubu Torchbearers have an important role to play. You are expected to take the message of the Renewed Hope Agenda to the grassroots—not through propaganda, but through facts, engagement and constructive dialogue.
”I am particularly pleased that women are at the heart of this initiative. Nigerian women have always played a central role in the political, social and economic development of our nation. From the marketplace to the civil service, from agriculture to entrepreneurship, from education to community leadership, women remain indispensable to national development. Their voices and participation must therefore remain central to our democratic process.”
Aiyedatiwa pointed to several Federal Government projects as examples of the administration’s development efforts, highlighting investments in transportation, electricity and other infrastructure.
Among the projects he mentioned were road construction, railway development, bridge projects, power initiatives and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
He further asked the women to explain government policies concerning local government financial independence and other programmes aimed at bringing development closer to residents.
“ As a state, we in Ondo have experienced the benefits of constructive collaboration with the Federal Government. The Federal Government’s policies and interventions align with what we are doing under OUR EASE development agenda,” he added.
The governor also charged the new Ondo chapter to approach its assignment as an opportunity to contribute to the advancement of the APC and the wider interests of the state and country.
He described the responsibility as “a call to service and a commitment to the progress of our party, our state and our country.”
Speaking at the event, the governor’s wife, Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, said the establishment of the group was an expression of support for Tinubu’s administration and his 2027 re-election campaign.
She urged members to carry the President’s message to residents in different communities, describing the forthcoming election as a decision concerning the continuation of his administration.
The APC National Women Leader, Mary Idele, similarly charged the members to engage women across Ondo State and build support for Tinubu ahead of the poll.
“Take the torch to your house, tell them that no vacancy in Aso Rock, tell them that Tinubu has no rival, Tinubu will win 90 per cent of the Nigerian women’s votes in January,” she said.
