A political support group backing President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 bid has opened a chapter in Kano State, with the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement beginning its grassroots activities in the state.
The initiative, founded by High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly called Tompolo, arrived in Kano with 50 specially branded vehicles intended for use by its campaign teams across the state.
The formal presentation of the vehicles took place on Sunday at the Kano State Government House, alongside the inauguration of the group’s Kano leadership structure.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the All Progressives Congress, public officials, members of the legislature, traditional institutions, religious figures and supporters of the movement.
Speaking for Tompolo, Delta State House of Assembly Speaker Emomotimi Guwor said the organisation’s strategy would involve direct contact with residents at the community level.
“The plan is that every door will be knocked, every home will be knocked, so that people will give their massive support to Mr President,” Guwor said.
He said the group intends to establish similar operational teams nationwide, with its activities extending to individual wards and polling centres in the run-up to the election.
Guwor, who heads the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, said the movement’s campaign for Tinubu was informed by what he described as changes introduced by the Federal Government in the economy and infrastructure sector.
“A lot has been done, and you can see that he’s very bold with his economic reforms. Good things attract people,” he stressed.
Among the projects and policies he referenced were the discontinuation of the fuel subsidy, foreign exchange reforms and infrastructure work in Kano. He specifically mentioned the Kano rail project and the rehabilitation of Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf formally accepted the vehicles and linked the gesture to Tompolo’s support for the APC and Tinubu’s campaign for a second term.
“These vehicles being presented today will be deployed to support our political structures and groups across the state as we prepare for the 2027 general elections,” Yusuf said.
The governor also appealed to northern political leaders to rally behind Tinubu, arguing that the presidency should shift northward after the South’s completion of an eight-year period in office.
At the same time, Yusuf urged contestants and their supporters to keep the forthcoming campaign peaceful and concentrate on governance, policies and achievements rather than attacks on individuals.
“This year’s campaign should be issue-based. What do you have for the good people of the state? What have you done for them?” he advised.
The Kano development adds to the movement’s growing presence ahead of the 2027 general election, following similar activities previously carried out in Katsina and Borno states.
The group’s strategy centres on building a network that reaches voters at the ward and polling-unit levels as political activities gather momentum nationwide.
