The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has said Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, are working towards securing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The position was disclosed by the Ondo State APC leadership amid ongoing political mobilisation and internal discussions over the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
The development comes as APC stakeholders in the state continue to engage party members and grassroots supporters ahead of the polls. Recent activities have included mobilisation efforts by political groups associated with Tunji-Ojo and calls from party elders for greater cooperation among key stakeholders.
Aiyedatiwa, who is the governor of Ondo State and leader of the APC in the state, has been involved in the party’s preparations for the election. His role has also been discussed by APC stakeholders, with party elders urging him to bring different interests within the party together.
The APC elders have previously said the governor’s assignment as coordinator of Tinubu’s re-election campaign in Ondo should focus on uniting party stakeholders rather than creating divisions among party leaders.
They also identified Tunji-Ojo as an important political figure whose grassroots network could contribute to the party’s mobilisation efforts in the state.
Tunji-Ojo, a former member of the House of Representatives, has separately been involved in political mobilisation for Tinubu in Ondo. A support group linked to the minister, BTO4PBAT27, recently announced a target of securing substantial support for Tinubu and APC candidates across the state in 2027.
The group said it planned to mobilise voters through communities, wards and polling units while also supporting APC candidates for the presidential, National Assembly and State Assembly elections.
The political activities have taken place against the backdrop of concerns over internal differences within the Ondo APC.
Some party elders have previously questioned the visibility of Aiyedatiwa’s mobilisation efforts while praising Tunji-Ojo’s grassroots activities. They have also appealed to supporters of both politicians to avoid public disagreements and work together ahead of the elections.
The party has continued to emphasise the importance of unity as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
Political alignments in Ondo are expected to remain closely watched because of the state’s importance in the South-West and the activities of prominent APC figures from the state.
For the APC leadership, the immediate focus remains on maintaining party cohesion, strengthening grassroots structures and coordinating its campaign activities ahead of the presidential and other elections scheduled for 2027.
The positions of Aiyedatiwa and Tunji-Ojo are therefore likely to remain significant in the party’s mobilisation strategy as the election approaches.
