The Pro-Chancellor and Founder of North-Eastern University (NEU), Gombe, Dr. Sani Jauro, has approved a significant salary increase for all categories of staff at the institution.

Under the new adjustment, staff members will receive salary increases ranging from 40% to 65%, with the new rates taking effect immediately.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mukhtar Sani Saulawa.

According to the university, this is the third major salary increase approved by the founder within three years.

The latest review comes as the university prepares to graduate its pioneer set of students and holds its maiden convocation ceremony, scheduled for November/December 2026.

Third Salary Increase in Three Years

NEU said it previously implemented a salary increase of up to 35% in October 2023.

This was followed by another 20% increase after the university achieved full accreditation for all its programmes during the October 2024 exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The university recorded an aggregate accreditation score of 91.4% during the exercise.

Explaining the reason for the latest salary adjustment, Dr. Jauro said the decision was motivated by his commitment to staff welfare and the pursuit of academic excellence.

He said the quality of a university ultimately depends on the people responsible for teaching, supporting and sustaining its operations.

According to him, the salary increase recognises the contributions of the university’s employees while also serving as an investment in the institution’s future.

50% Scholarship for Six Programmes

In another development, North-Eastern University announced a 50% scholarship for students admitted into six undergraduate programmes.

The scholarship applies to:

  • B.Sc. Petroleum Chemistry
  • B.Sc. Environmental Management & Toxicology
  • B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry
  • B.Sc. Microbiology
  • B.Sc. Biotechnology
  • B.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning

The university said the programmes were selected because of their relevance to the petroleum and energy sector, as well as broader industrial and environmental activities associated with petroleum development.

It specifically pointed to emerging opportunities around the Kolmani area of Gombe and Bauchi States and across the North-East.

Architecture Programme Gets Full Accreditation

NEU also announced that its Architecture programme has secured full accreditation from the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON).

The university said this makes it the only university in the North-East currently holding the accreditation for its Architecture programme.

The developments come as the institution expands its academic programmes and prepares to graduate its first set of students, marking a major milestone in the university’s development
