The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned that the FCT Administration will begin impounding and auctioning vehicles belonging to car dealers operating on green areas and parks, as well as transporters who continue to conduct their activities by the roadside.
Wike issued the warning during an inspection tour of Abuja, where he expressed concern over the failure of some transport operators to comply with directives issued by the FCT Administration.
According to the minister, several warnings had been issued to the affected operators, but many had continued to disregard the directives.
He said the administration would now be forced to take tougher measures against defaulters, adding that some Nigerians only comply with regulations when firm action is taken.
Wike expressed optimism that the impoundment and auctioning of vehicles belonging to offenders would serve as a deterrent and encourage other operators to comply with the rules.
The FCT Administration had recently introduced two major directives requiring public transport operators to use designated and commissioned bus terminals, while also ordering car dealers to vacate green areas and parks where they conduct business.
The measures form part of the administration’s efforts to address flooding, restore order in the capital and strengthen security within the transportation sector.
