2027: Dickson Calls for Zero Tolerance for Politicians Linked to Terrorism

National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has called for firm action against politicians allegedly involved in terrorism, saying political status should not shield anyone from accountability.

Dickson made the remarks while discussing preparations for the 2027 general elections and the need to protect Nigeria’s democratic process from violence and intimidation.

The former Bayelsa State governor argued that individuals who engage in or support acts of terrorism should face appropriate consequences, regardless of their political connections or positions.

He stressed the importance of peaceful political participation and urged Nigerians to reject violence during election campaigns and the electoral process.

Dickson also called on political leaders to prioritise dialogue, democratic values and the interests of citizens rather than resorting to intimidation or violent methods to gain political advantage.

According to him, Nigeria’s democracy can only thrive when politicians and their supporters respect the rule of law and allow citizens to freely choose their leaders.

The NDC leader’s comments come as political parties and their leaders intensify preparations for the 2027 elections. Political realignments and the formation of new alliances have continued across the country ahead of the polls.

Dickson further urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and resist attempts by political actors to exploit insecurity or violence for electoral purposes.

He maintained that political competition should be based on ideas, policies and the ability of candidates to serve the people.

The statement is expected to generate further discussion about the relationship between politics, insecurity and the conduct of future elections in Nigeria.
