Few days ahead of the Osun State governorship election, supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, have staged a major mobilisation rally in Osogbo.
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors organised the “Walk to Victory” rally on Wednesday, with hundreds of members marching through major areas of the Osun State capital, including Aiyetoro, Igbona Market, Old Garage, MDS and Olaiya, before ending at the Tinubu-Shettima Campaign Office.
Speaking during the rally, the Osun State Coordinator of the group, Sunday Akere, said the mobilisation was designed to demonstrate their support for Oyebamiji ahead of Saturday’s election.
Akere said the group was also using the rally to sensitise residents about the need for political change in the state. He claimed that the Renewed Hope Ambassadors has a structure of more than 95,000 members across Osun State.
He expressed confidence that voters would support the APC candidate, describing Oyebamiji as a candidate capable of delivering development and effective governance.
Akere also rejected suggestions that the APC campaign was depending on the influence of the Federal Government to win the election.
Meanwhile, the group’s Director of Security in Osun, Amos Adekunle Victor, called on all political actors and voters to ensure that the election remains peaceful and violence-free.
He urged residents to come out and vote, assuring them that adequate security would be provided and that votes would be counted.
Another member of the group, Adebowale Azeem, said the large turnout was evidence that the campaign was relying on grassroots support rather than “federal might.”
Women’s support was also highlighted during the rally, with Dr. Romoke Abiola saying women across Osun’s 30 local government areas and area office would mobilise for Oyebamiji.
She described the APC candidate as productive and resourceful, expressing confidence that his victory would bring prosperity to the state.
With the August 15 Osun governorship election fast approaching, the rally adds to the growing political mobilisation as Oyebamiji and other contenders battle for the governorship of the state.
