An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Delta North, Chief Chigbu, has thrown his weight behind Senator Ned Nwoko amid the ongoing legal battle over the party’s senatorial ticket.
Chigbu expressed confidence that Nwoko would emerge victorious at the Court of Appeal, describing the senator as a strong political figure with significant support across Delta North.
The APC chieftain’s comments come after a Federal High Court ruling concerning Nwoko’s challenge to the emergence of former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as the APC senatorial candidate for Delta North. Nwoko has indicated his intention to appeal the ruling.
The dispute follows the APC’s May 2026 senatorial primary, in which the party declared Okowa the winner over Nwoko. The party’s announced results put Okowa on 113,309 votes and Nwoko on 2,612 votes, although Nwoko’s supporters have disputed the outcome.
Chigbu urged APC members and political stakeholders in Delta North to remain united, stressing the importance of resolving the dispute through the appropriate legal channels.
The development adds another layer to the political contest in Delta North as the 2027 elections draw closer and the legal battle over the APC ticket continues.
