A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Sir Chinyere Chigbu, has expressed confidence that the Court of Appeal will overturn the High Court judgment concerning the APC Delta North Senatorial primary and affirm Senator Ned Nwoko as the party’s legitimate candidate.
Chigbu, who made the statement in Abuja, said Nwoko was right to challenge the lower court’s decision, insisting that a review of the case on its merits would ultimately deliver justice to the senator and the people of Delta North.
The dispute stems from the May 18, 2026 APC Delta North senatorial primary, whose outcome was upheld by an Abuja High Court.
Nwoko and his supporters have rejected the judgment, alleging that the primary was marred by voter suppression, intimidation and political interference.
Chigbu alleged that legitimate delegates were disrupted and displaced during the exercise, claiming that some of the officials overseeing the process were serving Delta State commissioners, advisers and special assistants.
The APC chieftain also questioned the political involvement of former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in the senatorial district, asking what the former governor still wanted in the Senate.
Chigbu further highlighted Nwoko’s legislative record, noting that the senator has sponsored more than 34 bills and 25 motions.
He urged the APC national leadership to consider Nwoko’s grassroots influence, experience and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that the senator remains the strongest candidate for Delta North.
According to Chigbu, the future of the APC in Delta North depends on selecting a candidate with experience, capacity, loyalty and strong grassroots connections.
He maintained that Ned Nwoko deserves the APC’s return ticket and expressed confidence that the senator would emerge victorious when the case reaches the Court of Appeal.
