Sultan Denies Endorsing Tinubu for 2027 Re-Election

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has dismissed reports claiming he endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media team and signed by Bashir Adefaka, the Sultan said the rumour was a malicious and unpatriotic attempt to drag the revered traditional ruler into partisan politics for selfish interests.

According to the statement, reports circulating on some social media platforms falsely suggested that the Sultan had called on Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

“Our simple response to the report is that it is not possible for the Sultan, as the father of all, to make such a statement, either publicly or in any other forum,” the statement read.

The Sultan’s media team urged Nigerians to disregard the report and reject any attempt to misrepresent his position or associate him with the political campaign or candidacy of any aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The statement noted that the Sultan, as a traditional and religious leader, remains a father figure to all Nigerians, offering fatherly, royal and spiritual guidance to political leaders and other citizens who seek his counsel, irrespective of their political affiliation.

“The Sultan’s doors cannot be shut against anyone who comes to him, regardless of political affiliation or persuasion. His Eminence has consistently demonstrated that he is the father of all and will continue to relate with all Nigerians without discrimination,” the statement added.

Reaffirming the Sultan’s commitment to peace, national unity and peaceful coexistence, the media team cautioned both traditional and social media users against spreading false information capable of misleading the public and dragging religious institutions into partisan political controversies.
