Russian Missile Strike on Kyiv Kills 17, Injures More Than 40

At least 17 people were killed and more than 40 others injured after Russia launched a large-scale missile attack on Kyiv and surrounding areas overnight, Ukrainian officials said on Wednesday.

According to Ukrainian authorities, Russia fired dozens of ballistic missiles, damaging warehouses, logistics facilities, railway infrastructure and other civilian sites across the capital region. The strikes triggered multiple explosions and fires that lit up the night sky over Kyiv, which has faced repeated missile attacks in recent weeks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the shortage of air defence interceptors contributed to the high number of civilian casualties and called on Ukraine’s international partners to provide additional missile defence systems.

“Ballistic missile interceptors would have saved the lives of those killed today,” Zelenskyy said, arguing that delays in supplying such systems had increased the scale of casualties and destruction.

He said the attacks primarily targeted warehouses, infrastructure facilities and railway stations, with construction material depots and other civilian logistics centres among the damaged sites.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Defence said its forces had struck seven logistics centres in Kyiv and surrounding areas, claiming the facilities were being used to store and distribute dual-use goods and components for drones.

In a separate development, Ukraine reportedly carried out an overnight strike on a logistics centre belonging to online retailer Wildberries. The company said the latest attack is part of a series of recent strikes that have damaged more than 10 of its warehouses in recent weeks.

The latest exchange of attacks underscores the continuing escalation of the conflict, with both sides targeting logistics and infrastructure facilities amid the ongoing war.
