Mohamed Salah has moved a step closer to beginning a new chapter in Turkey after arriving in Istanbul to a hero’s welcome from Trabzonspor supporters.
Hundreds of fans gathered at Atatürk Airport on Wednesday to receive the Egyptian forward, who acknowledged the cheering crowd while wearing the club’s colours. His arrival comes as Trabzonspor prepare to complete the signing of the former Liverpool star.
The 34-year-old became a free agent after ending a glittering nine-year stay at Anfield, where he scored 257 goals and helped Liverpool win several major trophies while cementing his place among the club’s all-time greats.
Trabzonspor are expected to officially unveil Salah once the remaining formalities of the deal are concluded. Since he is joining without a transfer fee, the Turkish club have reportedly invested heavily in putting together an attractive wage package to secure his signature.
Signing a player of Salah’s pedigree would rank among the biggest transfers in Trabzonspor’s history. The Black Sea club earned a place in European competition after finishing third in the Turkish Super Lig last season and will now aim to reach the Europa League group stage through the qualifying rounds. If unsuccessful, they could still feature in the UEFA Conference League.
While at Liverpool, Salah became the club’s highest-paid player after agreeing a reported £400,000-per-week contract in 2025. He also surpassed 50 UEFA Champions League goals, further underlining his status as one of the game’s most prolific forwards.
The club is now expected to make the transfer official, bringing one of world football’s most celebrated players to the Turkish top flight.
