Businessman and social commentator Isaac Fayose has challenged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to a ₦1 billion wager over the outcome of the 2027 presidential election in Rivers State, insisting that Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi would defeat President Bola Tinubu in the state.
Fayose made the remarks in response to Wike’s recent claim that President Tinubu would comfortably secure victory in Rivers State during the 2027 presidential election. Rejecting the minister’s prediction, Fayose expressed confidence that Obi would emerge victorious in the oil-rich state.
According to Fayose, he is willing to stake ₦1 billion and even a Rolls-Royce vehicle on his prediction, maintaining that the electorate in Rivers State would overwhelmingly support Obi when Nigerians head to the polls in 2027. He argued that the political mood in the state differs from Wike’s assessment.
The comments followed Wike’s insistence that President Tinubu enjoys significant political support in Rivers State and remains well positioned ahead of the next general election. The FCT minister also dismissed suggestions that opposition candidates could easily defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Fayose, however, maintained that the political landscape in Rivers would favour Obi, arguing that voters would ultimately determine the outcome at the ballot box rather than political predictions. He urged supporters of different political parties to remain peaceful as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of 2027.
