Ex-SSG Says Otti Has Restored Dignity to Abia People

A former Secretary to the Abia State Government (SSG) has praised Governor Alex Otti for restoring the dignity and confidence of the people of Abia State, saying the governor’s leadership has brought renewed pride, unity and development to the region. The commendation highlights growing support for Otti’s administration as the state approaches future political cycles.

Speaking at a recent public event, the ex-SSG — whose tenure in office saw key roles in state administration — stated that Otti’s policies and governance style have positively impacted the morale of Abians at home and in the diaspora. He emphasised that the governor’s focus on inclusive leadership, infrastructure development and economic renewal has reshaped perceptions of the state and lifted the spirits of its residents.

“We feel appreciated and dignified again as Abians,” the former SSG said. “Governor Otti has restored the dignity of the Abia person — in the way government relates with the people, in policy direction, and in how the state projects itself.” His remarks reflect sentiments shared by a growing number of residents who believe Otti’s administration has emphasised transparency, accountability and community-oriented governance.

The ex-SSG pointed to several initiatives under Otti’s leadership — including infrastructure rehabilitation, youth empowerment programmes and improved public service delivery — as examples of actions that have strengthened state pride. He argued that leaders who actively engage citizens and prioritise human-centred development help restore faith in governance and reinforce a sense of belonging among the populace.

Political analysts say such public endorsements can have dual effects: they highlight perceived successes of an incumbent administration while also shaping narratives ahead of broader electoral contests. Governor Otti, who is a key figure in national discussions, has increasingly been seen as a voice of progressive leadership among peers in the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) and beyond.

Residents at the event echoed the testimony, saying that Otti’s focus on “people-centred governance” has influenced their daily lives, from improved road networks to greater access to social initiatives that support education, health and enterprise development.

Some supporters noted that confidence in state leadership is essential for attracting investment, boosting local businesses and encouraging youth participation in the workforce — factors that contribute to a healthier economy and social wellbeing. They believe Otti’s governance framework has helped reinvigorate these sectors, advancing a sense of pride among ordinary citizens.

While critics may argue about the pace or scale of progress, the ex-SSG underscored that the restoration of dignity goes beyond infrastructure — it’s about how people feel valued and represented by their leaders. “A government that listens and acts for the common good restores hope and dignity,” he said.

As Abia continues on its development trajectory, public reflections like this one illustrate how leadership perception and policy impact can influence broader discussions about governance, citizen engagement and inter-governmental relations.
