Enugu Air has taken another major step in its growth journey with the addition of a new aircraft, the Embraer 195, as the airline continues to strengthen its presence in Nigeria’s domestic aviation market. The development signals a steady expansion of the carrier’s operational capacity and reinforces its ambition to build a dependable airline that meets the evolving needs of passengers.
The announcement was made by XEJET, the private aviation company responsible for operating Enugu Air’s services. In a statement issued by XEJET’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Emmanuel Iza, the arrival of the aircraft was described as a strategic investment in service quality, safety standards, and long-term sustainability. He noted that the expansion of the fleet reflects a broader vision to establish a modern airline platform that prioritises reliability, efficiency, and customer confidence.
Mr Iza also highlighted the role of the Enugu State Government in driving the airline’s development, commending Governor Peter Mbah for his strong support for aviation as a catalyst for regional transformation. According to him, the state government’s aviation agenda is helping to improve access, enhance mobility, and create new economic opportunities for businesses and communities within the South-East and beyond.
He explained that the acquisition of the Embraer 195 forms part of a phased expansion strategy designed to gradually scale operations, improve route coverage, and introduce new services. He added that passengers should expect further enhancements in the coming weeks as the airline continues to grow its network and operational capabilities.
Enugu Air is a state-owned airline established by the Enugu State Government as part of a long-term development plan to reposition the state as a regional aviation hub. The airline was officially launched in July 2025, with a mandate to strengthen domestic connectivity, stimulate trade and tourism, and support the growth of Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem. It operates from Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, which serves as its operational base and primary hub.
At the start of its commercial operations on 7 July 2025, Enugu Air entered the market with three Embraer 170 aircraft, each configured to carry about 76 passengers. These aircraft formed the foundation of the airline’s initial operations, allowing it to begin scheduled domestic services while gradually building its brand and customer base.
To ensure regulatory compliance and operational readiness from the outset, Enugu Air adopted a partnership model with XEJET, a licensed private airline operator. Under this framework, XEJET provides the regulatory approvals and technical oversight required to conduct flight operations, while Enugu Air continues the process of securing its own Air Operator Certificate. This arrangement enables the airline to operate legally and safely while completing the formal certification process.
Within this structure, XEJET is authorised to run Enugu Air’s scheduled domestic flights, including aircraft operations, flight planning, and regulatory compliance. Passenger bookings and ticketing are also managed through XEJET’s existing platforms, ensuring seamless access for travellers while Enugu Air builds its independent operational systems.
The addition of the Embraer 195 represents a significant upgrade in fleet capacity and flexibility, positioning the airline for expanded services and improved connectivity. As Enugu Air continues to grow, its leadership says the focus remains on building a reliable, efficient, and customer-oriented carrier that supports economic development, improves mobility, and strengthens air travel links across Nigeria.
