‎Edo Assembly summons 2Baba’s wife over viral video, orders her to explain conduct

The Edo State House of Assembly has ordered Natasha Irobosa Osawaru — the member representing Egor Constituency and wife of music legend 2Baba (Innocent Idibia) — to appear before its Ethics and Privileges Committee within one week to defend herself against allegations of misconduct stemming from a widely circulated video.
‎
‎The summons was announced during plenary on Tuesday by the Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, who expressed serious concern over the recent online fallout involving the lawmaker. The Speaker said Irobosa’s public conduct — which has drawn intense media scrutiny — “drags the name of the House into the mud.”
‎
‎According to the Assembly’s decision, Natasha has one week from the date of the summons to “show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against her.” The Ethics and Privileges Committee is expected to conclude its review and submit a report back to the House within two weeks.
‎
‎The action follows the circulation of a viral video that captured a heated altercation between Natasha and 2Baba in what reportedly was a shop at a London airport. In the video, voices can be heard shouting, with Natasha heard saying: “Don’t do that! Don’t f***ing do it! Na everyday you go dey shout for me? Wetin dey happen?” The footage has sparked widespread condemnation and raised questions about the propriety of the lawmaker’s public conduct.
‎
‎In plenary, Speaker Agbebaku stated that the Assembly — composed of “cerebral and educated” members — would not tolerate behaviour that undermines its reputation. He lamented that for “too long,” the actions of one member have dragged the House’s image into disrepute and made the institution the subject of negative media attention.
‎
‎The summons has stirred reactions across social media and among supporters of 2Baba and the Edo Assembly. For many, the move raises broader issues about private lives, public office, and the extent to which personal disputes should influence a lawmaker’s accountability. Others argue that the Assembly’s decision sets a precedent: public officials ought to maintain decorum, even off duty.
‎
‎Natasha Irobosa hailed from a prominent background — she is not only a serving lawmaker but also reportedly the granddaughter of respected traditional titleholder Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin.  Her relationship with 2Baba became public earlier this year, following the singer’s separation from his former wife, and his declaration of interest in marrying Natasha.
‎
‎In February 2025, 2Baba had publicly defended Natasha, asserting she had no role in his previous marital issues, and praising her as a “young, brilliant, amazing woman.”  The couple reportedly formalized their union with a traditional wedding ceremony in July.
‎
‎The recent video and ensuing summons come amid growing public scrutiny. For many Nigerians, the case represents more than a domestic dispute — it’s a litmus test for political accountability, public image, and the boundaries between private life and public service.
‎
‎As the Ethics Committee prepares to hear from Natasha, observers are watching closely. The outcome could influence not only her political future in the House but also set standards for behaviour expected of public officials in similar situations.
