Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has vowed to dismiss any contractor who fails to deliver quality work, emphasizing that no contractor paid bribes to secure government projects under his administration.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Benin City by Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
Speaking while receiving the leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) at Government House, Benin, Okpebholo said his administration’s mission is to serve the people of Edo selflessly and ensure meaningful development across the state.
“My mission is clear to serve the Edo people selflessly and to transform their lives through meaningful development,” the governor stated.
“We will not tolerate mediocrity. Any contractor who fails to meet project specifications will be shown the way out. Edo’s resources are for the people, not for compromise or favoritism.”
The governor reiterated his commitment to transparency, service delivery, and inclusive governance, stressing that his government maintains a zero-tolerance policy for corruption.
He emphasized that no contractor or political actor had influenced his decisions and warned that any member of his administration found engaging in corrupt practices would face strict consequences.
Okpebholo also called on IPAC to work collaboratively with his administration, noting that the period of partisan politics was over and that governance should now take center stage.
“The time for politics is over. We must unite and work together to build a state we can all be proud of,” he said.
The IPAC delegation, led by the Chairman of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Greg Igbinomwanhia, commended the governor for embarking on legacy projects such as the Ramat Park Flyover.
Igbinomwanhia also praised Okpebholo for regularizing the appointments of over 5,000 teachers who were previously employed on a contract basis.
He assured the governor of IPAC’s readiness to partner with his administration, expressing confidence in his sincerity and commitment to the welfare of Edo people.
The IPAC delegation comprised chairmen of 17 political parties in the state.
