Edo Assembly Probes Clerk Audu Omogbai Over Alleged Age Falsification

The Edo State House of Assembly Service Commission has initiated a formal investigation into the Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. Audu Omogbai, over allegations of age falsification and illegal extension of service.

The probe follows a petition submitted by some concerned staff members of the Assembly, who claim that Omogbai manipulated his official records to remain in office beyond the legal limits of public service.

According to the petitioners, the clerk was originally appointed in 1993, which would place him well beyond the mandatory 30 years of service stipulated for retirement. Additionally, they allege that he has surpassed the official retirement age of 60, raising questions about the legality of his continued tenure.

The petition further claims that Omogbai has withheld official file records, making it difficult to verify the accuracy of his service history and date of birth.

“We humbly request your intervention to investigate these allegations and take appropriate actions to maintain integrity and adherence to regulations within the Edo State House of Assembly,” the petition stated.

In response, the Assembly Service Commission, led by Chairman Ezehi Igbas, has invited Mr. Omogbai to appear before a three-member ad-hoc committee for questioning. The invitation was formally issued in a letter signed by the commission chairman.

The investigation is seen as a test of transparency and internal accountability within the Assembly’s administrative framework.

As of the time of this report, Mr. Omogbai has not made any public comments regarding the allegations.
