Gateway International Airport (GWI), located in Iperu, Ogun State, will officially receive its maiden flight on October 7, the state government has announced.
According to the statement, domestic carrier ValueJet will operate the inaugural service. The airline’s Managing Director, Capt. Dapo Majekodunmi, expressed excitement about being the first to launch operations at the new airport.
For now, ValueJet will run two weekly flights to Abuja—on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Departures from GWI are scheduled for 8:30 a.m., arriving in Abuja at 9:45 a.m., while return flights will leave Abuja at 4:00 p.m. and land at GWI by 5:15 p.m.
Strategically situated in the Ilishan/Iperu axis near the Sagamu Interchange and Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, GWI received its Aerodrome Operational Permit from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) last year.
Governor Dapo Abiodun noted that the airport will initially serve Abuja and Port Harcourt routes. He also highlighted its designation as an alternate landing site for Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport, which enhances its relevance for both domestic and international aviation.
“With its modern facilities, global connectivity, and strategic location, Gateway International Airport will transform air travel in Nigeria and stand as a landmark of Ogun State’s development,” the governor said.
