Veteran Nollywood actress, Clarion Chukwurah, has strongly criticized the growing trend of misinformation and falsehoods spread through online media.
In an Instagram post, the 61-year-old actress questioned why “news content providers and their sources” seem fixated on criticizing successful people and attempting to undermine them. She described the practice as a reflection of “miserable” individuals who, according to her, take pleasure in wishing others evil.
Expressing concern over how normalized misinformation has become in Nigeria’s online space, Chukwurah lamented that platforms are increasingly being used for blackmail, witch-hunting, and the deliberate spread of lies.
Addressing the false reports targeted at her, the actress warned those behind the allegations, whom she referred to as “unfortunate specimens,” that she is untouchable because her life is anchored in her faith.
“I never cease to wonder how it became so bad in Nigeria that online media has become an acceptable platform to misinform, witch hunt, blackmail, broadcast outright lies, and just wish evil on others,” she wrote. “Is it because some of these news content providers and their sources are so miserable, and they cannot bear the thought that others are happy and doing great in their own space? SMH.”
Reaffirming her faith, she added:
“To the unfortunate specimens out there peddling falsehood about me, I have come this far not by my own power because I have no power of my own, but by the Word of the Lord (Isaiah 54:15–17). In Jesus Christ, I am secured and remain strong. Genesis 12:3, Numbers 23:23, Numbers 24:9 no man can curse whom God has blessed.”
She concluded her post with a reminder of her unwavering belief: “Have a wonderful weekend. Jesus Christ is Lord.”
