The Sustainability Professionals Institute of Nigeria (SPIN) has welcomed 96 new members
during its 2025 cohort induction ceremony.

Held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the event marked a major milestone
in SPIN’s six-year journey, further cementing its status as Nigeria’s leading professional
body for sustainability experts.

Delivering the keynote address titled “The Future of Sustainability in a Volatile Global
System: Implications for Africa,” Dr. Louis Meuleman, a renowned public administration and
sustainability expert, highlighted the increasing instability in global governance. He
advocated for decentralised, collaborative approaches that empower local action, urging the newly inducted members to promote genuine, homegrown sustainability solutions across the continent.

The Sustainability Professionals Institute of Nigeria (SPIN) has inducted 96 new members at its 2025 cohort ceremony, held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This
marks the institute’s largest induction yet, bringing total membership to 296 a reflection of
the growing influence of sustainability leadership in Nigeria.

Vice President Ini Abimbola, speaking at the event, described the milestone as a sign of
progress in the professionalisation of sustainability practice in the country. She also outlined SPIN’s next strategic goal: attaining chartered status. “This will enhance our authority to standardise sustainability practices, institutionalise our frameworks across various sectors, and project Nigeria’s leadership globally,” she said.

The ceremony featured a keynote address by Dr. Louis Meuleman, a global expert in public
administration and sustainability. Speaking on “The Future of Sustainability in a Volatile
Global System: Implications for Africa,” he stressed the importance of decentralised
governance and locally driven solutions in advancing sustainability across the continent.

An honorary fellowship was also conferred on Dr. Segun Ogunsanya, Chairman of the
Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority and Airtel Africa Foundation, for his significant
contributions to sustainable development. In his remarks, Dr. Ogunsanya highlighted the
crucial connection between sustainable investment principles and national economic growth.
