The new leadership of the (NNPC), Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited headed
by Bayo Ojulari, has raised concerns about sabotage efforts aimed at undermining its drive
to transform the organisation into a corruption-free entity.
Ojulari, who assumed office on April 2, 2025, following the removal of Mele Kyari by
President Bola Tinubu, revealed in a statement issued by the company on Friday that a
coordinated sabotage campaign has been uncovered.
The statement alleged that a network of both known and unidentified individuals operating
within and outside the company is behind the effort to discredit the current leadership.
These actors, it said, are deliberately spreading falsehoods and misinformation in a bid to
derail the ongoing transformation of the NNPC into a transparent and performance-oriented
energy corporation.
The statement ended with the following:“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited
has uncovered a rising, coordinated effort of sabotage being carried out by a network of both
identifiable and anonymous individuals, operating within and outside different levels of the
organisation.
This group is intentionally circulating falsehoods and misinformation in an attempt to
undermine the leadership of NNPC Ltd and obstruct its ongoing efforts to transform into a
corruption-free, performance-driven energy company, in line with the directive of His
Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
It was further revealed that these individuals are using tactics such as planting fabricated
and damaging stories to distract the leadership and deceive the public.
The statement described the developments as deliberate and calculated attempts by
individuals unsettled by the company’s commitment to reform, transparency, and
accountability.
“These actors are resorting to planting false, scandalous reports carefully crafted to distract
the leadership, mislead the public, and demoralise our committed workforce and reform-
driven Nigerians,” the NNPC leadership stated.
“These are not random attacks but coordinated efforts by those who feel threatened by
change a clear indication of how far they are willing to go to derail the transformation of
Nigeria’s leading energy institution.”
Nevertheless, the new leadership acknowledged that more defamatory content may soon
surface but maintained that no level of sabotage would halt the company’s reform agenda.
The statement ended with the following:“We anticipate a rise in defamatory campaigns in the
coming days and weeks, but NNPC Ltd stands firm. The transformation is firmly on course,
and no level of sabotage will hinder its progress.
