Unity Bank Plc has entered into a strategic collaboration with AfriGo, a domestic card scheme provider, in a move aimed at increasing card usage among its retail customers and accelerating the uptake of digital payments and financial inclusion initiatives.
This commitment was announced during a strategic business meeting held recently at Unity Bank’s corporate headquarters in Lagos, where executives from AfriGo joined the bank’s leadership for high-level discussions on shared objectives.
Speaking at the session, Unity Bank’s Managing Director and CEO, Ebenezer Kolawole, reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to positioning the AfriGo card as a core channel for financial service delivery. He emphasized that as a homegrown card scheme, AfriGo presents a unique opportunity to reshape Nigeria’s card payment ecosystem and should be actively promoted within and outside the organization.
Kolawole further assured that Unity Bank would remain steadfast in its support of AfriGo’s adoption across its customer touchpoints. He also encouraged AfriGo to intensify its public enlightenment efforts to improve consumer trust and market penetration.
Meanwhile, AfriGo’s Managing Director, Ebehijie Momoh, praised Unity Bank for being a leading supporter of the card scheme. He revealed that the bank is among the top five institutions championing AfriGo’s rollout, contributing significantly to expanding access to financial services and digital payments nationwide.
Momoh highlighted AfriGo’s ongoing investments in innovative technologies that enable real-time and offline transactions—tools that are vital for reaching customers in remote or underserved areas. He also noted that partnerships with solutions like Tap & Go have facilitated the rise of contactless payment options, offering greater ease for commuters and everyday users.
Expressing confidence in the collaboration, Momoh pointed to Unity Bank’s vast retail footprint as a catalyst for future joint efforts aimed at strengthening e-banking adoption across Nigeria.
