As part of its Renewed Hope Agenda, the Federal Government has unveiled plans to construct 77,400 social housing units across Nigeria. The initiative aims to address the country’s growing housing deficit, with new Renewed Hope Cities also set to launch in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano.
The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, made the announcement in a recent statement. According to him, the ministry’s core mandate is to provide affordable housing for Nigerians, and it is seeking partnerships with both local and international investors to realize this goal.
“We welcome collaboration with Ms Allen Le and Partners International Investment Consulting Joint Company to help us deliver on our targets,” Ata said.
The plan includes 3,000 housing units each in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano under the Renewed Hope Cities, and an additional 250 units in each of Nigeria’s 36 states. Furthermore, the government will construct 100 housing units in each of the 774 local government areas—totaling 77,400 homes nationwide.
Ata emphasized that 30% of these units will be allocated to low- and no-income Nigerians. He commended President Tinubu for maintaining this 30% allocation, despite recommendations to reduce it to 20%.
During a meeting with government officials, Allen Ke Nam of SV-NED Incorporated expressed strong interest in investing in the affordable housing sector. He requested land allocations to support the construction effort and noted the project’s potential to create jobs and introduce modern building techniques.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Belgore, also expressed full support for the initiative and optimism about the potential collaboration.
