Pastor Adeboye Recalls Life-Threatening Incident Due to Poor Roads

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), recently shared a life-threatening experience from seven years ago, when poor road conditions nearly cost him his life during an evangelism program in Osun State.

Speaking at the church’s annual Special Holy Ghost Service on Friday, Adeboye recounted how his health deteriorated severely due to the rough roads, causing him to collapse in Ilesa. Unable to continue the journey by road, he was airlifted by helicopter to the RCCG camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. However, the situation was complicated when a group of miscreants attempted to stop the helicopter from taking off.

“Seven years ago, during the same program, my body completely broke down due to the terrible road conditions. For the first time in my life, I spent Christmas Day in bed,” Adeboye told the congregation. “The devil thought he had finally defeated me. I collapsed in Ilesa, and to get me back to the camp, we had to charter a helicopter. I was too weak to travel by road—if I had, I wouldn’t have survived.”

He explained that the bad roads worsened his condition to the point that he could no longer continue by land. The journey was further complicated when a group of people clung to the helicopter, tearing one of its windows in the process.

“They clung to the helicopter, and in the process, one of the windows got torn,” he said. “I was too weak to travel by road—if I had attempted it, I wouldn’t have made it.”

Adeboye credited his survival to divine intervention, sharing that he had an assurance that recovery was possible if he could make it to the camp. Seven years later, he expressed his deep gratitude for being alive.

“I want you to thank God for sparing my life,” he said. “Please, praise Him for me—give Him glory, honor, and adoration!”
