Police officers in Ogun State have successfully eliminated two kidnappers linked to the abduction of Hakeem Odumosu’s wife, who is a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police. The operation also resulted in the recovery of N10 million in ransom and multiple firearms.
In a statement released on Thursday by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters in Abuja, the details of the operation were shared. The statement revealed that Odumosu was kidnapped on January 16, 2025, at approximately 9:45 PM outside her home in Arepo, Ogun State.
“Four armed men blocked her Lexus Jeep and abducted her, prompting the Ogun State anti-kidnapping unit to initiate an immediate investigation. Using technical intelligence from Force Headquarters, police operatives carried out thorough surveillance of the creeks around Arepo, gathering crucial information to track down the kidnappers. Their efforts led to a high-risk operation on January 23, 2025, around 6:45 AM in a marshy area of Ikorodu,” the statement said.
The report also mentioned that when the officers arrived at the kidnappers’ hideout, they were met with gunfire. It further revealed that while two of the gunmen were neutralized, four others managed to escape, leaving behind their weapons and other belongings.
“Odumosu was rescued unharmed during the operation and is currently undergoing precautionary medical evaluation. She has since been reunited with her family.
“Items recovered from the scene included four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrel rifles, various rounds of ammunition, and N10 million in ransom money that had been demanded by the kidnappers,” he added.
Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, praised Lanre Ogunlowo, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, and his team for their brave efforts in ensuring the safe rescue of the victim.
“This operation highlights the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to fighting kidnapping and violent crimes. We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens,” the IGP stated.
