The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has ordered an investigation and prosecution of a female motorist who physically assaulted one of its personnel while on duty. The incident occurred on November 7, 2024, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos State.
According to eyewitnesses, the lady was arrested for seatbelt violation and expired vehicle papers. However, instead of cooperating with the FRSC officials, she became provocative, verbally assaulting the arresting marshal and threatening to prosecute them for doing their job.
A video of the incident shows the lady punching an FRSC official as he deflated one of her car tires. FRSC officials can be heard saying, “Don’t touch her, just bear it.” An FRSC boss intervened, saying, “You are beating my personnel in my office!”
The lady continued to shout and clutch the official’s shirt, prompting the FRSC boss to order, “Release him now! Release his body.” He also instructed his team to deflate all the tires.
The Corps Marshal has condemned the incident, ordering an in-depth investigation and immediate prosecution of the motorist. The FRSC warned the motoring public to end any form of assault on its personnel, henceforth.
“The Corps Marshal is also optimistic that justice will not only be served, but done speedily so as to serve as a deterrent to other violent road users,” said Olusegun Ogungbemide, Assistant Corps Marshal Corps Public Education Officer.
