The upgraded Maiduguri Airport, also known as the General Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, is set to commence full international flight operations by January 2025. This development is expected to facilitate cargo transportation across the region and improve air connectivity for the North East Zone

According to reports, the airport has been upgraded with modern facilities and is expected to facilitate cargo transportation across the region and improve air connectivity for the North East Zone.

“The upgraded airport is expected to facilitate cargo transportation across the region and improve air connectivity for the North East Zone,” said Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, during a recent visit to the airport.

Keyamo, who was accompanied by chief executives from key aviation agencies, noted that the airport’s upgrade was a significant milestone in the country’s aviation sector.

The General Muhammadu Buhari International Airport is set to be the first fully operational international airport in Nigeria’s North East Zone. Nigeria has 21 airports operated by the Federal Airports Authority, with five set for international air traffic.

The airport’s launch is expected to boost economic growth in the region and create job opportunities for the local population. As Keyamo stated, “The airport will be a game-changer for the region, and we are committed to making it a success.”

The General Muhammadu Buhari International Airport is scheduled to commence full international flight operations in January 2025.

The governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the effort that has been put into this project. He also praised the Fetus Keyamo for commitment and good leadership.
