A public feud has ensued between Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti and political activist Aisha Yesufu. The dispute began when Seun Kuti advised Aisha Yesufu to “liberate herself from the Hijab” during a TV show.
“I told her to liberate herself from the Hijab, and she couldn’t handle it,” Seun Kuti explained in a video. “I’m not apologizing for my views. I believe women should have the freedom to choose.”
In response, Aisha Yesufu released a video criticizing Seun Kuti’s music career and threatening physical harm. “Seun, I for break every bone wey dey your body, you’re just a frustrated musician trying to gain relevance,” Aisha said.
Seun Kuti retaliated with another video, claiming Aisha Yesufu had body odor during their encounter. “I had to endure her smell for two hours,” he stated. He also alleged Aisha Yesufu belittled his success compared to American music mogul Jay-Z.
“I said the private sector should be held responsible (for the economy), and she said I’m not a capitalist like Jay-Z because I never ‘blow’,” Seun Kuti said. “That’s when I knew she wasn’t ready for a meaningful conversation.”
@ImaredonJ: “Seun Kuti has turned himself into a laughing stock. He should be ashamed of himself.”
@justkency: “This is a good reason to beware of those who call themselves activists. A little bit of power, they will become your next oppressor.”
@oladele: “She dey gba [She’s stubborn].”
@eatable_chidi: “Seun just dey lie up and down. Na real one minute dot come I swear.”
@Trends4Naija: “Was she smelling good or bad? And why are you speaking about this now?”
