The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) has expanded its network by adding 23 new Band A feeders, bringing the total number to 179. This upgrade comes after the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) authorized the Multi-Year Tariff Order for these additional feeders.

According to Kingsley Okotie, IKEDC’s Head of Corporate Communication, the NERC’s approval was based on the Disco’s demonstrated capacity to provide at least 20 hours of electricity per day.

Band A customers, who are exempt from government electricity subsidies, have been paying over N200 per kilowatt-hour since April, up from the previous rate of N68. These premium customers are guaranteed a minimum of 20 hours of electricity daily.

In related news, IKEDC has issued a warning to customers about unauthorized equipment on its electricity poles across its six business units. The company has reported widespread safety violations and improper use of its poles by both individuals and businesses.

IKEDC emphasized that such violations pose significant risks to both the perpetrators and the public and disrupt the company’s operations, negatively impacting service quality. The company’s technicians will begin removing unauthorized items from their poles and will consider legal action against offenders to prevent future infractions.
