The Rotary Club of Maryland, Ikeja District 9111, has announced its plans to boost small businesses by providing loan facilities. This announcement was made during the recent installation of Rotarian Olalekan Olubanjo as the district’s 23rd president, alongside the induction of new board directors and a fundraising event held in Lagos.
Olubanjo highlighted that his leadership will prioritize transformative initiatives designed to uplift underserved communities. “We have introduced a micro-credit loan scheme that offers N100,000 to support small businesses. Currently, six individuals are benefitting from this scheme, with an expansion plan set for every quarter,” he stated.
He further shared that the district plans to undertake projects valued at N75 million during the 2024-2025 Rotary year.
One of the standout initiatives is the construction of a primary health care center in Ishon, a remote island in Lagos State’s Epe Local Government Area, which will require an investment of N15 million. Olubanjo emphasized the club’s dedication to improving the quality of life in the Ishon community, an area that has long been neglected due to its difficult accessibility.
He also mentioned ongoing efforts such as providing sanitary pads to female students, distributing bed kits to pregnant women, supplying insecticide-treated nets, and delivering medical supplies to the community’s primary health care center, among other initiatives.
Regarding education, Olubanjo confirmed that the district is committed to upgrading the information technology center at Wasimi Junior High School and improving the library facilities at Wasimi Senior High School.
