The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has kicked off the third edition of its Vision First Programme, continuing its focus on community-centered healthcare in the Ilaje area and surrounding regions of Bariga, Lagos State.
According to a statement from NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, this initiative embodies the ongoing commitment of NNPC Ltd and SNEPCo’s Production Sharing Contract to advancing health and well-being in their host communities.
Soneye highlighted that the programme aims to provide free eye care services to over 1,000 individuals, along with a variety of general healthcare services. These include cardiovascular screenings, BMI assessments, laboratory tests, medical consultations, treatment for both mild and chronic illnesses, and the distribution of insecticide-treated nets.
Since its inception, the Vision First Programme has made a notable impact, with over 1,853 individuals benefiting from free eye care. The Lagos edition, launched in 2022, has screened 2,000 people, provided 1,199 prescription glasses, given medication to 1,310 beneficiaries, and successfully performed medical procedures on 189 individuals.
This effort aligns with the Mallam Mele Kyari-led Management’s dedication to improving lives and fostering sustainable partnerships in NNPC’s host communities.
In his remarks, Mr. Bala Wunti, Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services, emphasized that the programme signifies a commitment to restoring hope and enhancing the quality of life within NNPC host communities.
“With this initiative, our goal is to eliminate preventable vision issues that could hinder anyone’s progress. By offering eye screenings, corrective lenses, surgeries, and general healthcare, we are committed to providing clarity and fostering brighter futures for those in need,” Wunti, represented by company official Mrs. Bunmi Lawson, stated.
The outreach underscored the importance of proactive health management, noting that maintaining good eye health contributes to a better future. Participants were encouraged to safeguard their vision by undergoing regular check-ups, maintaining a balanced diet, and ensuring sufficient rest.
