The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has recently been praised by key engineering institutions in Nigeria, including the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, for its use of cutting-edge technology and adherence to exceptional engineering standards. This recognition came following a recent site visit to the refinery.
Prof. Rahamon Bello, President of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, who was represented by former academy president Prof. Azikiwe Onwualu, commended the refinery for meeting European Union engineering standards.
highlighted that the construction utilized state-of-the-art European tools and technologies, establishing the refinery as a model of engineering excellence.
“This represents the zenith of global engineering standards,” Onwualu stated. “Adhering to such standards ensures that every stage of production follows rigorous guidelines, resulting in a final product that meets the highest quality. We are thoroughly impressed with the standards observed and the unwavering commitment to quality throughout the process.”
Sadiq Zubair, President of COREN, noted that the inclusion of local engineers in critical aspects of the project showcases the talent and skill of Nigerian professionals.
He emphasized that the refinery is poised to significantly impact Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, with engineering organizations ready to support its success. “This refinery is more than just a project; it is a national achievement that all Nigerians can take pride in,” Zubair said.
Margaret Oguntala, President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, described the Dangote Refinery as a monumental investment outfitted with advanced technology.
She expressed optimism that the refinery represents a pivotal shift for Nigeria, signaling a hopeful improvement in economic conditions. “This refinery is a symbol of progress and a herald of better times for our country,” Oguntala remarked.
Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, revealed that the refinery is set to begin producing Premium Motor Spirit by the first week of September 2024.
