FirstBank has extended crucial support to 600 women in Jigawa and Plateau States who have been affected by Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF). These women received not only surgical interventions but also essential aftercare kits.
This effort is part of the bank’s Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CR&S) Week, during which a rehabilitation program was also introduced to help these women rebuild their livelihoods.
In a statement released on Sunday, the bank shared that this VVF awareness and surgical program for the 2024 CR&S Week is closely tied to its sustainability strategy, particularly focusing on the pillars of Education, Health and Welfare, and Diversity and Inclusion.
Shehu Aliyu, Executive Director of Public Sector for the bank, emphasized that FirstBank’s collaboration with state governments is geared towards raising awareness and providing surgical solutions for this medical condition.
Aliyu also highlighted the bank’s commitment to empowering women by equipping them with the necessary skills and capabilities to ensure they lead healthy lives.
FirstBank reiterated that its CR&S Week is a fundamental component of its mission to effect positive change throughout Nigeria via focused social initiatives.
This dedicated week allows employees from across the FirstBank Group, including those in Nigeria, the UK, Gambia, Sierra Leone, DRC, Guinea, Ghana, and Senegal, as well as subsidiaries like First Pension and First Nominees, to volunteer their time and resources to support causes that align with the bank’s strategic vision for corporate responsibility and sustainability.
