Olympic record holder Tobi Amusan has been chosen to represent Nigeria as the flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Amusan’s appointment is historic for Nigerian athletics because it makes her the first recipient of this honor in the past 20 years for track and field athletes.
“Tobi Amusan has been named as Nigeria’s flagbearer for the opening ceremony of #Paris2024 #Olympics – she becomes the first athlete from Athletics in 20 years, since Mary Onyali at the Athens 2004 Games, to have such honors,” Making of Champions tweeted on Tuesday on the social media platform X.
Amusan, who has garnered recognition for her exceptional feats in the 100-meter hurdles, will spearhead the Nigerian delegation in the opening ceremony’s parade of nations.
Apart from Amusan’s appointment, the Nigerian Olympic Committee has chosen another important member for the national team.
The post went on to say, “The Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) also announced badminton player Anuoluwapo Opeyori as the General Team captain for Nigeria in Paris in another appointment.”
Nigeria’s Olympic participation in Paris in 2024 was made possible by these appointments.
