The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) announced on Sunday that it is probing an incident involving a fuel attendant at one of its retail outlets. The attendant allegedly insisted that customers purchase lubricants or engine oil before they could buy petrol, attributing this requirement to a directive from NNPC Retail management, which oversees the company’s filling stations.
In a statement from Abuja, NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye addressed a viral social media video depicting the attendant’s actions. NNPC Retail clarified that these claims are baseless and do not reflect its customer service principles, asserting that “customers are never required to buy additional products to obtain petrol.”
Huub Stokman, Managing Director of NNPC Retail Ltd, confirmed the company’s dedication to offering transparent and high-quality service, ensuring that customer needs are met without any undue conditions. The public is encouraged to disregard the false information and report similar incidents to the relevant authorities.
NNPC Retail has launched a detailed investigation into the matter and promises disciplinary measures against those involved. NNPC stations, known for their competitive petrol prices of N617 per litre in Abuja and surrounding areas, often attract significant customer traffic, contrasting with other outlets where prices range from N660 to N710 per litre.
