Access Bank‘s Retail Operations Group employees have generously funded the installation of boreholes in communities across Nigeria. The initiative was highlighted during the commissioning of a borehole and water purification facility gifted to the Ogolonto Community in Lagos’ Ikorodu area last Thursday. This donation comes amidst a cholera outbreak that has claimed over 40 lives in parts of the country.
The Retail Operations Group, responsible for the donation, emphasized that it forms a significant part of their Corporate Social Responsibility for the year. According to Folusho Ibeabuchi, chairperson of ROG CSR 2024, the project was initiated after employees observed the persistent challenge of access to clean water in many communities, exposing residents to waterborne diseases.
“We carefully selected communities based on their pressing needs. This project, funded by individual staff contributions, aims to provide a sustainable solution. We’ve also included a water treatment facility to prevent diseases like cholera,” noted Ibeabuchi.
Foluso Adedeji, representing ROG Group Head, echoed the sentiment, expressing the employees’ commitment to impacting communities positively. “CSR projects are central to our values at Access Bank. Year after year, we assess how we can best support the communities where we operate. This initiative underscores our dedication to improving lives,” said Adedeji.
The Baale of Ogolonto Community, Oloruntade Fatola, extended gratitude for the water project, emphasizing its timeliness amidst health challenges. “We deeply appreciate this initiative, especially given the current cholera outbreak,” Fatola remarked, urging community members to use the facilities responsibly and to prioritize Access Bank for their banking needs.
