President Bola Tinubu announced that his administration prioritizes development focused on improving citizens’ quality of life by providing essential infrastructure and amenities. He stated this on Saturday during the inauguration of engineering infrastructure in Guzape District Lot II, Abuja.
Commending Gilmor Engineering Limited, the project’s contractor, Tinubu emphasized that his commitment to infrastructure is not for personal gain but to enhance the nation’s quality of life. He stated, “As President, I have no personal stake in Guzape District but hold the people’s mandate to deliver a better living environment.”
He praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his exceptional leadership and for completing major projects in Abuja despite challenging times. Tinubu remarked, “Minister Wike has shown great leadership during a difficult period, helping to restructure our financial system for national prosperity.”
Tinubu also urged the Guzape community to prioritize compensation over litigation, advocating for development that brings economic benefits. He asked, “What value is an inaccessible land? Let’s unite to build Nigeria.”
While inaugurating the road, Tinubu agreed to name major roads in Guzape District after literary icons Chinua Achebe and JP Clark. He said, “Minister for FCT, the Chinua Achebe and JP Clark roads are now officially commissioned.”
FCT Minister Wike explained that the project, initially awarded in 2003 for N14 billion, was split between Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company and Gilmor Engineering Limited. Despite delays and litigations, the project’s cost was revised to N18.17 billion before the current administration took office. He appreciated the President for his unwavering support and non-interference, emphasizing the importance of government continuity.
Wike also mentioned plans for completing the ‘diplomatic area’ in the district within a year. Executive Secretary FCDA Shehu Hadi Ahmad outlined the project’s scope, noting that Guzape District Lot II covers 620 hectares, with significant portions dedicated to residential, commercial, and recreational facilities. Lot 1 and Lot 2 together encompass 1,070 hectares.
