The Lagos State Police Command recently made an arrest involving Chimereze Chinedu, who stands accused of deceiving a Thai national and unlawfully acquiring $216,000 and N30 million. According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Chinedu allegedly made assurances to supply the victim with 37 tricycles, which he priced at $216,000.
Exploiting the situation further, Chinedu purportedly forged documents from the State Criminal Investigation Department, claiming that the tricycles had been seized by the police. Subsequently, he allegedly leveraged these counterfeit documents to extort an additional N30 million from the victim, ostensibly to secure the release of the purportedly seized tricycles.
Hundeyin elaborated that Chinedu’s fraudulent activities extended beyond the initial tricycle deal, as he allegedly forged additional documents from the State Criminal Investigative Department, Lagos, insinuating that the tricycles were confiscated by law enforcement. This ruse reportedly facilitated the extraction of another N30 million from the victim, ostensibly to secure the release of the tricycles.
Chinedu was apprehended on May 10, 2024, in Enugu State, following an extensive investigation and collaboration with officials of the International Criminal Police Organisation. Ongoing efforts are aimed at apprehending other individuals involved, underscoring the command’s unwavering commitment to combating internet fraud.
