The Katsina State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to preserving and showcasing the state’s rich cultural heritage and traditions, with a focus on promoting tourism. This commitment was made by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Zango, during the Season 3 Dambe Warriors Circuit Fight 11 Competition, a traditional boxing event held at the Katsina Open Air Theatre.
Bala Zango emphasized that Katsina is a culture-friendly state, and the government is willing to organize inter-local government traditional boxing competitions to promote the state’s cultural heritage further. Chidi Anyina, the co-founder of the Dambe competition highlighted the economic potential of Dambe, he said it’s a traditional form of entertainment, and the competition can attract investors and impact the local economy.
Chidi Anyina outlined plans to take Dambe to the international stage, with a structured league featuring fighters from different states, including Katsina, Niger, Abuja, and Kano. The league will have various weight categories, with winners receiving cash prizes and promotional opportunities. This aims to showcase Dambe as a unique aspect of Nigerian culture and attract funding from investors within and outside the country.
During the competition, fighters from different states showcased their skills, with Autan Kudawa from Kano State emerging as the winner with 88 points. The event demonstrated the excitement and potential of Dambe as a cultural and tourist attraction, aligning with the Katsina State Government’s commitment to promoting its cultural heritage and traditions.
