The government of Abia State has completed its plans to train two thousand master trainers to work with the state’s teachers.

Information Commissioner Okey Kanu revealed this on Monday during a press briefing regarding the results of this week’s executive council meeting, which Governor Alex Otti chaired.

He said that 200 teachers had completed the training and that the 1,800 teachers who were left would soon receive theirs.

According to him, 40 teachers have been selected for training under the Abia State School Enhancement Team Program after being screened, interviewed, and shortlisted by the Abia State Basic Education Board.

He also revealed that the state has started posting security guards to its public schools, which he claimed was intended to protect students’ safety and property.

“This is part of the wider agenda of the state government to reform our education system.

“Also, as part of the ongoing reform agenda in the educational system, the promise that the state government has made in the past has come to fulfillment with the posting of security personnel to our schools.

“Posting security personnel is aimed at securing the lives and property of both the students, teachers, and the property of the schools involved,” he stated.

In addition, Kanu disclosed that 5,746 ASUBEB employees have been designated for promotion. He explained that this move is intended to inspire the staff to work more productively.

He claims that the board has screened forty individuals as part of the Abia State School Enhancement Team program to guarantee quality control and adherence to school policies.

The commissioner declared that on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, the state government would open the recently renovated eye center, which is an extension of Abia Specialist Hospital in Amachara.
