The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a three-day spell of rainfall for the Federal Capital Territory and 17 other states. This information was revealed in a weather outlook issued by the agency on Monday.

According to NiMet, the country should expect thunderstorms and rain from Monday through Wednesday, with the northern states of Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kaduna, Taraba, and Bauchi likely to experience daytime thunderstorms.

The agency also predicts that parts of Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory, and Plateau states will see intermittent showers in the morning. As the day progresses, these areas, along with Kogi State, can expect thunderstorms and sporadic rain, as indicated in the forecast.

In the southern region, intermittent showers are expected over Cross River and Akwa Ibom States, with the possibility of light drizzle in some areas during the morning.

For the North-Central region, NiMet forecasts morning showers in parts of Niger, Benue, Plateau, and the Federal Capital Territory. Strong winds may accompany thunderstorms in certain areas, prompting the agency to advise the public to take necessary precautions and follow safety guidelines from relevant authorities.

The afternoon and evening hours are likely to bring thunderstorms and moderate rainfall to parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Benue, Kogi, and Nasarawa States.

NiMet also advised airline operators to rely on weather updates for optimal planning and urged residents to stay clear of flood-prone areas, particularly in major cities, due to the potential for heavy rainfall.
