Jigawa Enforces 24-Hour Curfew

On Friday, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State imposed a 24-hour curfew due to the surge in violence that occurred on the first day of nationwide protests across the country. In a statewide address, the governor expressed his disappointment over the situation in the state.

He announced that, for Friday only, the curfew would be temporarily lifted between noon and 2:30 p.m. to allow individuals to attend Juma’a prayers at the mosque.

“To restore peace and order, we have enacted a 24-hour curfew,” the governor stated. “However, on Friday, the curfew will be suspended from noon to 2:30 p.m. to accommodate the Friday prayers at the mosque.”

“The transformation of a peaceful protest into violent disturbances marked by vandalism and looting is unacceptable and contrary to our values. We will not permit such behavior to continue unchecked.

We, alongside security forces, will monitor the situation closely and take necessary measures to protect the lives and property of our citizens from miscreants and troublemakers throughout the state,” Namadi added.
