In support of the Dangote Refinery, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party for 2023, has called on the Nigerian government to end ongoing hostilities and give the support required for the project to succeed.

Obi emphasized the refinery’s vital importance to Nigeria’s economic future in a statement released on Tuesday through X.

“The recent conflicts between Dangote Industries and some government agencies are deeply troubling,” Obi stated.

He emphasized that the matter goes beyond personal grievances and political affiliations, as it essentially concerns Nigeria’s economy and the welfare of its populace.

Obi highlighted the refinery’s potential benefits, saying, “The refinery has the potential to generate approximately $21 billion in annual revenue and create over 100,000 jobs, with numerous additional positive impacts on the economy.”

He underscored its strategic importance in addressing Nigeria’s fuel crisis and increasing foreign exchange earnings.

He said, “The refinery is too vital to fail and must not be hindered, considering its crucial role in our national welfare.”

He outlined Dangote’s broad industrial portfolio, which covers more than fifteen industries, such as petrochemicals, sugar, cement, and fertilizers.

“Alhaji Dangote’s unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s industrialization, job creation, and economic growth, despite adversities, warrants full support and protection,” Obi said.

He maintained that businesses such as Dangote Industries should be considered national treasures, deserving of strong support and protection, especially in light of Nigeria’s present economic difficulties.

Recalling the importance of Dangote’s contributions, the former governor of Anambra State urged the federal government to extend all necessary assistance, especially for the refinery.

Obi declared, “The success of Dangote is intrinsically linked to the success of Nigeria and Africa,” and issued a dire warning should it fail, causing serious harm to both the nation and the continent.
