Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured that the state remains peaceful and safe, despite recent security concerns surrounding the administration of local government areas. The governor made this statement during a visit to Omuma Local Government Area, where two security operatives were killed in a political clash.
Fubara’s visit was aimed at inspecting the progress of work on the 14.6 km Omodu-Eberi road project. He was welcomed by excited residents, led by Caretaker Committee Chairman, Promise Reginald. The governor’s assurance contradicts perceptions of a state under siege, fueled by reports of protests and police takeover of council secretariats.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the continuation of police barricades on local government secretariats in Rivers State to maintain law and order. The police occupation will continue until a court delivers judgment on the local government crisis in the state. Egbetokun made this announcement in Abuja, during a conference with commissioners of police and senior officers.
Despite the tensions, Governor Fubara has reassured residents of the state’s safety, emphasizing that the situation is under control. His visit to Omuma Local Government Area aimed to demonstrate the state’s stability and progress amidst the ongoing crisis.
